TheBlondeRaven: My psychologist wants me evaluated for AdHd by a psychiatrist. Girls...
My psychologist wants me evaluated for AdHd by a psychiatrist. Girls version of course.
My feelings are confused. If I actually have this diagnosis why has it taken so long to discover it? I’m 22. I was very well behaved child. I didn’t scream, throw things around, or disturb the class. In fact I was the quiet girl who sat and daydreamed. Is the psychiatrist going to laugh at me when I go there for an evaluation? It seems so unlikely that I actually have Ad/Hd, feel like I would just waste health care resources. I’m dreading seeing my GP and asking for a referral because of AdHd, the doc will likely deny it because the concept of moihaving AdHd seems so far stretched. Part of me wishes that I have Ad/HD, sounds terrible I know, but I’d like to feel better; it is a concrete diagnosis, which would be a welcomed relief to going about having only a vague idea of something being wrong with me.
ADHD isn’t all about hyperactivity and being impulsive. It can indicate a tendency to be inattentive. As an adult with ADHD, I experience a very different set of symptoms from the ones I encountered in grade school. I was also a child that wasn’t misbehaving, I was actually quiet, I just couldn’t pay deep attention in school, and I was always very disorganized. In Adult ADHD, it can simply mean some risky behavior. I hope everything works out well for you. It is definitely worth the time to go get an evaluation. Good luck!
